City walks

First walks in Phoenix.

Phoenix asks for a leash of six feet or less anywhere off your property, and off-leash only in the city’s fenced dog parks. The city’s own rules, the official dog park list, and how we suggest starting a new dog’s first week.

The rules, in short

From Phoenix City Code, the Parks department, and Maricopa County’s own pages.

  • 1Leash, six feet at most, anywhere off your property

Hours, exceptions & the fine print

The posted dog-park rules add: keep the leash on until you are inside and the gates are fully closed, no female dogs in heat, and the city asks that children under 12 stay out of the exercise areas. Phoenix licenses run through Maricopa County, not City Hall - the county sets the fee, with reduced rates for spayed or neutered dogs and for owners 65 and up; check the current amount when you apply.
