Hours, exceptions & the fine print

Scottsdale section 4-39 defines a leash as no longer than six feet and strong enough to control the dog. It prohibits dogs at large and recognizes enclosure, livestock work, hunting or hunting training, kennel-club events, approved racing, and qualifying supervised obedience training provisions. Dogs over three months ordinarily wear a current license tag off the owner's premises; specified working/event and transport activities have tag exceptions when the dog remains vaccinated, licensed and controlled. Section 20-32 requires a leash no longer than six feet in city parks, except designated enclosed dog exercise areas, city-permitted dog shows/exhibitions/obedience classes, and qualifying service-animal circumstances where a leash is prevented by disability or interferes with work and the dog remains controlled. Carry a leash and stay with the dog in designated off-leash areas; permitted events also require permit possession. Section 20-30 excludes McDowell Sonoran Preserve and gives specific park provisions priority. Arizona section 11-1012(B) concerns rabies-quarantine areas, not a blanket statewide six-foot walking rule; subsection (D) separately requires physical leash restraint or enclosure on public parks and school grounds, with recognized event exceptions. Pick up waste promptly and follow posted rules.
