Your puppy’s type

Answer all 8 questions and your puppy’s result card appears here.

Every puppy arrives with a personality that was there before you were

Spend ten minutes at any dog park and you will see it: one puppy greeting everything like a long-lost relative, one watching from behind a leg, one treating the world as a chew toy, and one asleep in the middle of it all. Puppies come with a style of their own, and the sooner you see it clearly, the calmer your days get.

This quiz asks eight quick questions about how your puppy plays, rests, reacts to new things, and handles being alone. It takes about two minutes, and at the end you get one of five puppy types with a shareable card you can post or send to the family group chat.

What the quiz asks

The questions are everyday ones, not a test your puppy can fail. How does your puppy greet a new person? What happens on a walk: sniffing every few steps, or chasing everything that moves? Do they crash mid-zoomie or push through? How do they handle you leaving the room? You answer from what you have already seen this week, so the results reflect your actual puppy rather than a breed stereotype.

Mixed-breed puppies, rescues, and mystery mutts are exactly who this is for. The quiz never asks for a breed, because the fun of a puppy is that you do not need one.

The five puppy types

The Zoomie Rocket runs at full speed in every direction and recharges with fast naps. The Velcro Pup wants to be where you are, ideally touching you, and follows you from room to room. The Thoughtful Observer watches new people, sounds, and places from a comfortable distance before deciding the news is good. The Social Charmer has never met a stranger: visitors, kids, and other dogs are all friends they have not greeted yet. The Explorer meets the world nose first, reading every corner, leaf, and doorstep.

Most puppies lean clearly toward one type, and some sit between two.

Why knowing your puppy's type helps

Knowing your puppy is not a judgment of them, and it is not a training program. It is expectation-setting. A Rocket who is bouncing off the walls at 7 p.m. is usually an overtired Rocket, not a badly behaved one. An Observer who hangs back at the park is not broken; they are simply doing what they do, and they usually come around in their own time. A Velcro Pup does not need to be fixed into independence by force; they need patience and a lot of low-pressure practice being alone for short spells.

When everyone in the family reads the result, something nice happens: instead of arguing about whether the puppy is 'too much', you all start saying 'of course they are, they are a Rocket.'

Retake it as they grow

Puppies change fast. The sleepy eight-week-old Observer can be a confident Rocket by five months. The quiz is free and takes two minutes, so run it again every couple of months and keep the cards. Watching the type shift is half the fun, and the collection makes a lovely record of the year your puppy grew up.

The five puppy types

Every puppy is a mix, and most puppies change a lot between 8 weeks and a year. This quiz is just for fun: it picks the type your answers point to most, so you can lean into what your puppy already loves. The five types are The Explorer, The Velcro Pup, The Zoomie Rocket, The Thoughtful Observer and The Social Charmer.

Whatever the result, a calm daily rhythm helps every type. The puppy sleep planner and the week-by-week puppy journal are good next stops.

Common questions

Is the puppy personality quiz accurate?

It is a fun, honest snapshot based on your own answers about everyday behavior, not a scientific assessment. Treat it like a mirror, not a microscope: most owners find it lands close, and retaking it later shows how the puppy is changing.

What are the five puppy types?

The Zoomie Rocket, the Velcro Pup, the Thoughtful Observer, the Social Charmer, and the Explorer. Each comes with a short description and a shareable card.

Can my puppy's type change?

Yes, and that is normal. Puppies develop quickly in their first year, so a type that fits at eight weeks may shift by five or six months. The quiz takes two minutes, so retake it as they grow.

Does it cost anything or ask me to sign up?

No. The quiz is free, runs in your browser, needs no account, and the answers you pick are not saved by the tool.

What should I do with the result?

Share the card, and use the type to set fair expectations at home: rest needs, play style, and pace of new experiences all look different for a Rocket than for an Observer.
